January 4, 2007 - New Year’s Tree-Face Rubdown
Posted by Zach Glenwright under Edited Feeds (HD), Other Stuff, SquirrelsOn New Year’s Day, I had a chance to set cameras up to tape some casual squirrel moments… In the one, a squirrel eats a nut and towards the end seems to rub it’s face on the tree-bark… I’m not sure why it did that, because I don’t think they scent-mark like that, so I’m kinda confused…

Aah, the feel of tree bark… ohhh…
And the confusion doesn’t end there… the 2nd video is a squirrel doing what looks like a dry heave to me… I’m not sure what it’s doing, if it’s defensive or just a temperature reaction, but it’s weird looking! The video itself is only 40 seconds and shows a little of the squirrel’s strangeness, but the event went on for about 10 minutes! Is it hiccupping? I don’t know!

Don’t know about the dry heaving - maybe he had a little (burp) gas…
The other clip looks like he’s just marking - I don’t know if squirrels spray, or if they have glands under their chin…

That makes sense, but you’d think I’d have seen one do this before in 8 years of recording…
I wonder if the “dry heaving” one had a temperature problem… don’t know…
